What happened
Security forces on Saturday, 25 July 2026, foiled a suicide attack on a security forces check post in South Waziristan District, killing four militants, including a suicide bomber, and destroying an explosives-laden vehicle, the military’s media wing said.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the attempted attack was carried out by “Indian-sponsored Fitna Al Khwarij” — a term the state uses for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan — but was repulsed before the attackers could breach the post’s defences, according to Pakistan Today.
“The attackers’ explosive-laden vehicle was successfully engaged and destroyed outside the perimeters of post killing one suicide bomber in it, which failed to cause any damage,” the ISPR said in its statement.
The ISPR said security personnel engaged the remaining intruders, forcing three of them into a nearby compound, where they were later neutralised in a deliberate and precision-based clearance operation. It said there were no casualties on the security forces’ side.
A sanitisation operation was under way to find any other militants in the area, the military said. It added that the counter-terrorism campaign under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” framework, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, would continue “at full pace.”

Why it matters
The foiled assault came a day after a suicide attack on a joint police check post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district on the night of 23-24 July, in which 15 people were martyred, including 12 military personnel, two policemen and a Forest Department official.
It also followed what the ISPR described as a series of intelligence-based operations in Bannu district and adjoining areas in which it said 24 militants were killed. The military has linked the recent spate of attacks to the banned TTP, which the state refers to as Fitna Al Khwarij.
The attacks have kept security personnel manning static check posts in the former tribal districts under pressure. The Centre for Research and Security Studies has reported that conflict fatalities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa rose from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025.
