What happened
Eighteen terrorists were killed in Balochistan’s Surab district after a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) detonated prematurely while it was being prepared, followed by a joint clearance operation, the military’s media wing said on Wednesday, 12 August 2026.
According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the blast occurred on the morning of 12 August while the explosives-laden vehicle was being prepared by terrorists. The premature detonation confirmed the killing of eight terrorists and left several others injured. Representatives of the Balochistan National Party (BNP) and the National Party (NP) expressed concern over the civilian casualties in the Surab incident and demanded a judicial inquiry. BNP central senior vice president Sajid Tareen Advocate announced at a press conference that a province-wide protest would be held on 16 August against the incident, in which women and children were among the dead, and called for a fact-finding commission headed by a retired Supreme Court judge whose report should be made public. The National Party said attacks on civilian areas were a grave violation of human rights and urged the government to address grievances through political and democratic means.
