Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, to discuss humanitarian cooperation, disaster preparedness and the situation in Gaza.

He briefed the prime minister on the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the challenges OCHA faces in delivering urgently needed assistance, and expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s continued support for OCHA’s humanitarian efforts in Afghanistan.

The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working closely with the UN and OCHA to strengthen global humanitarian cooperation, enhance disaster preparedness and support relief efforts for communities affected by conflicts and natural disasters.
Monsoon preparations
Separately, the prime minister met the NDMA chairman to discuss preparations for the monsoon rains, Daily Times reported. He directed that coordination with provincial governments and provincial disaster management authorities be further improved during the rains.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz was briefed on preparations for any emergency during the monsoon and on progress in fully activating the early warning system and coordinating with the Ministry of Climate Change. Earlier in July he had ordered the formation of a federal emergency response committee and directed the climate change minister and the NDMA chairman to make emergency visits to all provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The meetings followed a warning from the Pakistan Meteorological Department that a fresh monsoon spell would begin in the country from the first week of July. The department flagged a risk of urban and flash flooding in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Lahore and Faisalabad, and of landslides in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
