What happened
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday directed the provision of financial assistance to families affected by recent rains and floods, including the families of those who lost their lives and the owners of houses damaged in the flooding.
Chairing a meeting on the monsoon rains and the damage they caused, the prime minister ordered that compensation be paid to the families of all those who died, and to owners of houses that were completely or partially damaged.
Relief and reconstruction
Shehbaz instructed the authorities to complete the restoration of electricity transmission systems and roads in flood-affected areas at the earliest. He directed the relevant federal ministers and secretaries to visit the affected areas, assess the damage in person, and ensure that rehabilitation work began without delay.
He also ordered that relief operations be accelerated and that food and other relief supplies be delivered as soon as possible to areas where aid had not yet reached because of access problems. The National Disaster Management Authority and the provincial disaster management authorities were told to remain fully prepared for expected rains and floods.
