What happened
At least 17 people, including 14 children, were killed and 56 others injured in rain-related roof and wall collapses across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since 25 March, the provincial disaster management authority said on Monday, 30 March 2026.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said the deaths were caused mainly by the collapse of roofs and walls of houses during intermittent rains, with incidents reported from Bannu, North Waziristan, Abbottabad, Kohat, Upper Dir, Bajaur and Battagram districts, Arab News Pakistan reported. At least 11 houses were partially damaged, five of them in Bannu.
Bannu was the worst-hit district, with eight deaths — seven children and one woman — and 42 injuries. In Abbottabad, the roof of a house collapsed before dawn on Monday in Hajia Gali near Havelian, killing five members of one family, four of them girls. Two children were killed in a roof collapse in Gumbat, Kohat, while a woman died in Battagram and a person in North Waziristan, according to The Express Tribune. Officials named the victims in several of the incidents and said rescue and relief operations were under way.

The deaths underscore how vulnerable mud-and-brick housing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains to heavy spring rain, even before the main monsoon, echoing an earlier January roof collapse in Charsadda (KhabarWire). KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi expressed his sorrow over the loss of life and property and the PDMA said it had directed district administrations, Rescue 1122 and other agencies to speed up relief, with Bannu prioritised.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department recorded the heaviest rainfall in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with Cherat at 82mm and Peshawar airport at 72mm, and warned of more wet weather. A larger westerly system was forecast to grip the country from 1 April, bringing widespread rain, hailstorms and mountain snow, with flash flooding possible in KP streams and hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
What happens next
The PDMA advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and sensitive tourist areas, and said its Emergency Operation Centre would stay operational. Authorities were told to remain vigilant through the forecast period, with landslides a concern in upper KP, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir and standing crops at risk from hail and strong winds.
