What happened
An Islamabad sessions court on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, approved bail for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana fake receipt case, and granted Khan bail in five additional cases, according to The News.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majuka observed that the prosecution had failed to produce evidence against the couple. The court approved their bail pleas against surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each and set the same amount for Khan in the five other cases.
The first information report alleged that Khan and Bushra Bibi committed fraud by submitting a falsified receipt that purportedly documented the sale of gifts — including watches and cufflinks — allegedly taken from Toshakhana using forged signatures.
The other cases
Among the additional cases was one accusing Khan of defaming the army. The court ruled that no material had been placed on record proving the offence. According to the FIR, a magistrate and his staff were watching a private news channel when Khan alleged that army officers “wanted to see him defeated and killed”; the complainant said he had used derogatory language against senior officers.
In an attempted murder case linked to protests, the court noted that the prosecution had failed to prove that the demonstrations were organised at Khan’s direction, or that he was present at the protest sites. Khan, who has been in jail since August 2023, has faced a range of cases from corruption to terrorism since his removal from office in April 2022.
Medical check-up
Separately, the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) said a medical board had examined Khan at Adiala jail on Tuesday as a follow-up after a second intravitreal injection, carrying out a detailed examination of both eyes, including fundoscopy and an OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) scan, The News reported.
What is still uncertain
The orders granted bail rather than acquittal, so the underlying cases remain pending. The reporting did not say when the next hearings would be held or whether the state would challenge the bail orders.
