What happened
A Pakistan Army captain was martyred and seven terrorists were killed in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 7 August 2026, the military’s media wing said.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was conducted on intelligence about the presence of fighters aligned with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which the state refers to as “Fitna al-Khawarij” and describes as an Indian proxy. ISPR said the fighters took refuge inside a mosque during the operation.
“During the intense fire exchange, Captain Hamza Akram, 27, a resident of Narowal district, a brave officer who was leading his troops from the front and relentlessly pursuing the khawarij, fought gallantly, paid the ultimate sacrifice and embraced shahadat,” ISPR said.
The military said weapons and ammunition were recovered from the seven killed fighters, who it said had been involved in attacks on security forces, law enforcement agencies and civilians. A sanitisation operation was under way in the area, and ISPR said the counter-terrorism campaign under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” framework would continue.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif separately expressed grief over Captain Akram’s death and paid tribute to his service, while commending the security forces for killing the seven fighters.
