What happened
Security forces foiled an attempt to breach the Customs House in Balochistan and killed 21 militants in two separate overnight operations, the military’s media wing said on Tuesday, 1 September 2026. Six personnel, including two officers, and a Customs Department official were martyred in the fighting.
According to ISPR, the incidents took place in Nokcha in Chagai district and at Ziarat Cross in Pishin district during the night of 31 August and the early hours of 1 September.
The two operations
ISPR said militants it identified as belonging to “Fitna al-Khawarij” launched a coordinated attack on the night of 31 August in an attempt to breach the Customs House. Security forces responded and, after an exchange of fire, killed 10 militants; fleeing fighters were engaged further, it added. Six personnel — two officers and a Customs Department official — were martyred during the exchange.
The military described the attack on the Customs House as a manifestation of a “terror-crime nexus”, saying it was orchestrated to stop customs officials from carrying out their lawful duties and to allow criminal activity in the area to continue.
In the second operation, ISPR said 11 militants it called “Fitna al-Hindustan” were killed on 31 August after they tried to set up an illegal checkpoint along the N-40 Quetta–Taftan Highway to extort money from commuters. Security forces responded immediately and killed 11 “on the spot”, recovering a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and explosives, the statement said.
ISPR added that sanitisation operations were under way in the surrounding areas to clear any remaining fighters, and that the counterterrorism campaign under the government-approved “Azm-e-Istehkam” framework would continue.
Reactions
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the security forces and expressed grief over the deaths of the six personnel. President Zardari praised the forces’ operational capability in targeting the groups, and the Prime Minister said the sacrifices against terrorism would not go in vain and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism.

The federal government has designated militant groups operating in Balochistan as “Fitna al-Hindustan”, accusing India of sponsoring a proxy war through them, while “Fitna al-Khawarij” is the state’s term for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
