What happened
Security forces killed six terrorists in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Balochistan’s Panjgur district, the military’s media affairs wing said in a statement carried by Pakistani newspapers on 6 June 2026.
In the statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the operation was conducted “on the night of June 3/4” on the reported presence of terrorists belonging to what the state calls the “Indian proxy, Fitna al Hindustan”. It said forces engaged multiple terrorist locations and that “after intense fire exchanges, six Indian sponsored terrorists were sent to hell”.
The ISPR said weapons, ammunition, improvised explosive devices and a vehicle were recovered from the dead, who it said had been “actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area”. It added that sanitisation operations were being conducted to eliminate any other fighters found in the area and that a counterterrorism campaign by security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue.
President Asif Ali Zardari commended the security forces for the operation, saying the elimination of the six marked “an important step toward establishing peace” in the country. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to the security forces and expressed Pakistan’s commitment to eradicating terrorism, according to the reports.
Why it matters
Panjgur is one of the districts repeatedly caught up in the insurgency in Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province by area and its most resource-rich.
