What happened
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) announced Indus AI Week 2026, a week-long national initiative that will run from 9 to 15 February 2026 and end with a flagship summit at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad, ProPakistani reported.
The ministry said the week is part of the Prime Minister’s Digital Pakistan vision and is intended to position the country in the global Artificial Intelligence ecosystem by bringing together policymakers, technology firms, academia and startups.
What the government says
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the event as a pivotal moment for Pakistan’s economic transformation, saying Artificial Intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept but a present-day necessity for governance and industrial growth. In the message reported by ProPakistani, he said the aim is to move Pakistan from a consumer of technology to a hub of innovation and to integrate AI into agriculture, healthcare and finance.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the government’s focus had shifted from policy formulation to practical adoption and invited international investors to explore Pakistan’s digital sector. She said the week would connect the more than 25,000 IT graduates Pakistan produces annually with global AI leaders.
What the week will include
According to the ministry, the programme includes AI for HER, aimed at gender inclusion in the AI economy; E-Sports and Gaming, to position gaming as a digital export; and a Technology and Innovation Hub linking talent with capital, policy and markets. It will also feature AR/VR and Robotics for training and industrial use, a GovTech and DefenceTech showcase, an industry expo with on-site interviews, a national AI training bootcamp and the Uraan AI Techathon 1.0.
What remains uncertain
The announcement did not specify the full list of participants, the cost of the programme or how its outcomes will be measured. It also did not say whether the week’s sessions and the closing summit would produce specific policy or investment commitments.
