What happened
Lahore and several parts of Pakistan’s plains received widespread rainfall on Thursday, 22 January 2026, while snowfall continued in the country’s northern mountainous regions, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures, according to The Nation.
The report said rain was reported in Lahore areas including Abbott Road, Lakshmi, Gawalmandi, Johar Town and Jail Road, with light showers in Shadman, Awan-e-Sanat-o-Tijarat Road, Qurtaba Chowk, Township, Bagrian and Green Town. The downpour disrupted power supply in several localities as more than 150 LESCO feeders tripped under wet conditions, according to the report, which said LESCO placed its field teams on high alert to restore supply and fix technical faults. The report said snowfall continued in northern Pakistan and Azad Kashmir and that areas of Balochistan including Ziarat, Kan Mehtarzai, Muslim Bagh, Toba Kakri and Toba Achakzai received snow, with temperatures dipping below freezing in Quetta and surrounding regions. It said the National Highway Authority and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority remained engaged in clearing snow from key routes, while rain and gusty winds also swept Karachi and Peshawar, with snow reported in parts of Waziristan. The Meteorological Department forecast intermittent rain and snowfall across the upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until 23 January, and the PDMA warned the weather could intensify.
