What happened
Pakistan’s military said on 6 September that security forces had killed 21 militants in several engagements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between 3 and 5 September.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations, 10 militants who remained in an area of North Waziristan after an earlier border infiltration attempt were killed, taking the military’s total for that episode to 25 when combined with 15 deaths previously announced. ISPR said another seven militants were killed after troops detected a separate group moving near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
The military added that four more militants were killed in two joint operations in Kohat and Dera Ismail Khan. It identified those killed as members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and alleged foreign sponsorship.
Why it matters
