What happened
The Counter Terrorism Department said on 27 May 2026 that it had foiled a major terror plot in Karachi during Eid al-Adha, arresting two alleged operatives of the banned Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army in a joint operation with a federal law enforcement agency.
The operation was carried out on Hub River Road, a CTD spokesperson said.
The arrests
The spokesperson identified one of the suspects as Allah Dino, who had allegedly travelled from Gwadar to Karachi by bus with explosive material. He was arrested after a tip-off at a bus terminal in Yousuf Goth, on Hub River Road, after arriving on the instructions of the banned outfit to carry out attacks in the city during the Eid celebrations, the department said.
Officials said they recovered ten rolls of explosive material, two non-electric detonators and eight metres of safety fuse from him.
A second suspect, identified as Faraz Ahmed Somro, also known as Toto, was arrested during the raid, according to the CTD. He had been absconding in a terrorism case registered by the department in Karachi, and a 30-bore pistol and ammunition were recovered from him.
Link to attack on Chinese nationals
The CTD said Faraz and his accomplices were allegedly involved in an attack on Chinese nationals at a dental clinic in Karachi’s Saddar area. The attack killed Ronald Raymond Pow and injured Dr Richard Pow and a third person identified as Finn Nine, according to the department.
Several accomplices of the suspect had already been arrested, while Faraz had gone into hiding to evade arrest, the spokesperson said. Special teams have been formed to arrest the remaining accomplices and suspected target killers linked to the network.
Why it matters
The case ties the Eid security operation to an earlier attack on Chinese nationals in Karachi, a recurring focus of Pakistani counter-terrorism efforts because of the presence of Chinese workers and projects in the country. The Interior Ministry banned the Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army, along with the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz-Aresar group and the Sindhu Desh Liberation Army, under the Anti-Terrorism Act in 2020.
