What happened
Basant celebrations in Lahore were marred by a string of accidents linked to kite-flying on 6 February 2026, leaving one young man dead and at least five other people injured in separate incidents across the city, ProPakistani reported, citing rescue officials.
Rescue officials said a 25-year-old man, identified as Ali Rashid, died after being electrocuted near Sukh Nehar in Baghbanpura. He reportedly climbed an electricity pole while trying to retrieve a cut kite and came into contact with live wires; his body was shifted after legal formalities.
In another incident, a young man named Rafi was injured in Defence Phase 5 after a sharp kite string reportedly struck his neck, and was rushed to hospital. Authorities said Gulshan Ravi also saw multiple string-related injuries, where an eight-year-old child, Arsa, and a 45-year-old man, Shabbir, were hurt in separate incidents and shifted to hospital. A 12-year-old boy, Abdul Wahid, was injured in the Lower Mall area after falling while running to collect a kite, and a 14-year-old, Salman, was hospitalised after reportedly falling from a tree in Gulshan Ravi while trying to retrieve a kite.
