What changed
Pakistan’s passport delivery counters will open on Saturdays from 8am to 4pm for the next two months, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports said in a public notice on 5 September.
The temporary hours are intended for people unable to collect passports during the regular working week. The directorate urged applicants to pick up completed documents promptly and warned that passports left unclaimed for six months would be destroyed under government policy.
Service context
The notice followed a series of changes to passport services. In July, the directorate partnered with TCS on a home-delivery programme called “Passport Aapki Dehleez Par”. In June, the government also announced an eventual full transition from machine-readable passports to e-passports, although it did not set a final cutoff date.
The Saturday opening is limited to collection counters and to a two-month window. The notice did not announce Saturday processing of new applications or say that every other passport-office service would be available.
Why it matters
The additional day gives applicants a weekend option and may reduce the stock of completed but unclaimed passports. The six-month warning makes timely collection especially important for people who have already paid and completed the application process.
