Similar conditions were expected across major cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Dir, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan, Mansehra and Abbottabad, on Saturday and Sunday. North and central Punjab, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Sargodha, was also forecast to see rainfall, with the system extending into southern Punjab, including Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rahim Yar Khan, from Saturday night.
Gilgit-Baltistan, including Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Diamer and Astore, was braced for rain from Saturday night to Monday. Flooding and landslide warnings
In a series of precautionary advisories, the PMD warned that heavy rain could cause localised urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Lahore and Faisalabad on Saturday and Sunday.
The department also cautioned that landslides could occur in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, while water flow could increase in local streams of Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, as well as in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan.
“Windstorms and lightning could damage weak structures such as solar panels, electric poles and billboards,” the PMD warned, advising authorities to remain vigilant.
